"K-28 100th Anniversary"
The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

   On October 16th and 17th, 2023 I photographed on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's, K-28 100th Anniversary Photo Excursion. In 1923 the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad purchased 10 K28 engines. Seven of the K-28 engines were requisitioned by the US Army for use in Alaska during WW2 and were scrapped after the war. The 3 remaining engines continued in service across southern Colorado until 1951.

   Now the 3 make the San Juan mountains come alive with western history as they steam through San Juan National Forest in Colorado.
