"Chaco Canyon"

   Chaco Canyon National Historic Park is absolutely the most interesting, and my personal favorite of all the Ancestral Pueblo ruins that I have explored in the American Southwest. It served as the ceremonial, trade, and political hub for the Ancestral Puebloan civilization.

   It’s most famous for its architecture. The Chacoans aligned their architecture with precise celestial events, allowing them to track the sun, moon, and seasons for agriculture and ceremony. Chaco’s mystery lies in the fact that the Chacoans had no written language yet were able to construct monumental architecture aligned perfectly with solar and lunar cycles.

   The canyon is well off the paved road. Be ready for some adventure!
